Directed by Philippe Lellouche
France, 2011, 95 min. French with subtitles
It is the summer of 1976 Isabelle has just caught her husband Claude in bed with another woman. She decides to get revenge by choosing to go back to her hometown for the family summer vacation, a place that doesn’t like outsiders, especially if they’re Algerian Jews like Claude. With their two young sons and her mother in tow, they are joined by two other couples. The village has never met a Jew before and suddenly there are three of them. This charming film, based on the director’s childhood, follows an eccentric cast of characters as they navigate their way through romantic relationships, first loves and culture clashes. A light and wistful coming of age tale marked by cross-generational romance and culture-clash comedy, the film brims with laughter, love and 1970s nostalgia.
