MAX SCHMELING was the World’s Heavyweight German boxer whom the Nazi’s tried to turn into an Aryan Superman. This boxing biopic takes us front and center into the world of countdowns, bruised bodies and bruised egos, capturing his highly symbolic match against African American Joe Louis in 1936. The public Schmeling was an instrument of Nazi propaganda. The private one refused to break ties with his Jewish manager, hid two Jewish children during Kristallnacht, and remained married to Czech actress Anny Ondra (whom many suspected of being Jewish).
