In the spring of 1953, in communist Czechoslovakia, police captain Hakl investigates a jewelry robbery. An opened safe deposit box leads to a known burglar. What seems an easy case soon becomes a tangle of hidden motives and complications for the Jewish community. When he is called off the case, he continues on his own sensing the state security charges against the Jewish community may not be true.
