A must-see for those who want to know more about Israeli cinema! Using film clips and interviews with significant directors, this remarkable documentary reflects both the development of Israeli cinema and the ways Israeli cinema reflects the history of Israel—something no other national cinema has done. Part I begins with early pre-Zionist films and continues with the birth of the birth of the nation--the bourekas comedies, films about the North African waves of immigration, and heroic dramas covering the years of 1948, 1956, 1963, and 1967. Part II deals with Israeli films from1978 to 2005, and covers political films, Russian and Ethiopian immigration and assimilation, religious conflicts, and the more recent wave of personal cinema.
