Florida Premiere
PBJFF Closing Night Film
Sponsored by: Palm Beach Jewish Film Festival Cinema Silver Circle
Directed by Peter Miller & Will Hechter
Conceived by: Sharyn Felder
USA 2012 / English / 99 minutes
Doc Pomus, a Brooklyn Jewish boy, born Jerome Felder, composed many of the finest rock ‘n’ roll and pop hits of the 1950s and ‘60s recorded by such legends as Ray Charles, Andy Williams and Elvis Presley. Physical handicaps resulting from polio made Pomus feel like an outsider and influenced his affinity for rhythm and blues. Working alone or with such partners as Mort Shuman, Phil Spector and Dr. John, Pomus crafted a remarkable number of memorable hits, among them: “Save the Last Dance for Me,” “Teenager in Love,” “Little Sister,” “This Magic Moment,” “Young Blood,” and “Viva Las Vegas.” The soundtrack of Pomus’s life included marriage, divorce, bankruptcy, gambling and like many memorable movies, a show business comeback.
