Israel 2006; 86 min; Hebrew w/ English Subtitles;
Florida Premiere
A deeply personal coming-of-age-story based on the
director’s experience as the child of Holocaust
survivors, Dear Mr. Waldman is about a fragile
Israeli family struggling to overcome the horrors of
the Shoah and start a new life. Set in Tel Aviv in
the early 1960s, the story is told through the eyes
of 10-year old Hilik who shares one goal: to make
his parents happy and to compensate for the losses
they suffered. When his father stumbles on a sign
that a son from his first marriage may have survived
Auschwitz and fled to America, Hilik takes matters
into his own hands and tests his father’s love while
accepting the risk of losing him.
This screening is made possible through the
generosity of Dr. Freddy and Meryl Avni.

North American Premiere
A
little girl and a teddy bear both witness the
persecution of the Jews in Nazi Germany. The child
survives; the toy gets passed along; and although
neither the little girl as a deaf mute nor the teddy
bear are able to speak, they still have much to
tell. |
