Israel, 2005; Gilad Goldschmidt, director
Hebrew, Russian w/ English subtitles; 47 minutes
22-year old Sasha’s greatest wish is to become an
Israeli. He changes his name to Yair, speaks only
Hebrew and completely re-invents his life until he
gets a package from his aunt in the Ukraine. The
contents challenge everything he knows about
himself, forcing him to question his religious
beliefs and learn more about the Russian identity
he’s struggled to suppress. At the end of his
personal journey, he can finally choose who he truly
is, what he wants from life, and his place in the
new world he is creating for himself.
