A richly-layed generational drama revolving around a Dutch Jewish businessman and his sons. A Holocaust survivor with no formal education who built a successful textile business, Simon Breslauer constantly puts down the more modern approaches of his two sons: 33-year old Max, and the younger, more pliant Boy who’s engaged to the girl of his parents’ dreams. Max decides to strike out on his own, is shocked to learn that his father has been having a secret affair for years with a beautiful Polish shake, and Boy loses himself during a comically disastrous business trip to Casablanca. But when Simon dies, Max finds that refusing his inheritance is harder than he thought. Director Jan Schutte, whose film Goodbye America was in the 5th PBJFF, scatters humor and irony throughout this drama-comedy.
