THE COLLECTOR OF BEDFORD STREET

Palm Beach Premiere Academy Award nominee

USA, 200.1 Alice Elliot, director.

Larry Selman is a fundraiser and a community activist in Greenwich Village. He’s also the 60-year
old, developmentally-challenged neighbor of the filmmaker. Because of Larry’s 20 years of service to
his neighborhood, the community created a supplemental need adult trust for him--the first
time that a group, rather than the individual’s family did this. The film humanizes the story
behind the abstract statistics of mental retardation, revealing how a community builds tolerance and
understanding.
