Swedish w/ Eng. subtitles 90 min.
She was the patient and lover of Carl Jung who went on to study with
Sigmund Freud. But until a
box of her papers was discovered in 1977, Sabine Spielrein-
the first woman psychoanalyst in
Switzerland-- remained a footnote in pyschoanalytic history. Set against
the defining
political, cultural and scientific events of the 20th century in Europe,
Sabina lived in the balance
between Freud and Jung, Stalin and Hitler, Judaism and Christianity,
scientific career and bourgeois family life. Using documentary material,
stills, and
reenacted scenes, this docudrama rescues her from obscurity, bringing
to life both the work of this pioneer Russian-Jewish analyst and the
dark side of psychoanalysis.
